Personality disorders are defined by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) as “an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the culture of the individual who exhibits it”.
These inflexible and pervasive mental conditions make the things worse for patients in many situations.these patterns are consistent with the ego integrity of the individual and therefore, perceived to be appropriate by that individual. The onset of these symptoms of altered behavior can typically be traced back to late adolescence and the beginning of adult-hood
There are three groups of personality disorder.
1. Eccentric Personality Disorders.
In this people often appear strange or peculiar to others.
2. Paranoid Personality Disorder –
patient with this disorder interpret the actions of others as threatening.
3. Schizoid Personality Disorder –
patients detached from social relationships.
4. Schizotypal Personality Disorder –
patient is uncomfortable in close relationship.
5. Narcissistic Personality Disorder –
PATIENTS ARE very demanding in their relationship
6. Anxious Personality Disorders. -
These people are often fearful and anxious of one or many things.
These patients are not only problem for themselves but also for others. they need medical help and advice.
